Calorad: A Kosher Weigh to Lose By

By: Yocheved Golani

Writing the Great American Novel. Owning an awesome car. Winning the lottery. These are some American dreams, and there is one other: losing weight easily. Unlike some of the other dreams, Kosher Today is in a position to report on the weight loss dream.

The Essentially Yours company has the kosher certification of the Brooklyn-based Organized Kashrus Laboratories (Circle-K symbol) for Calorad®. A liquid taken on an empty stomach before going to bed for the night, Calorad® smells a bit like the pink lemonade in its list of ingredients.

PhD nutritionist Steve Petrosino says, "Typically about 40% of people will lose weight (or inches) on Calorad® by one month, 70% by two months, and 80-85% by three months. About 15% of people will not respond to Calorad.

"After the first three months of Calorad® use, a maintenance dose will help to keep weight off. Many customers prefer the way they feel when taking Calorad and the other benefits to sagging skin, improved sleep, improved energy, etc., and prefer to keep taking Calorad® even after achieving their weight loss."

Petrosino explains that the kosher certification process involved some worthwhile effort. "It was a very challenging process. A specific area of the manufacturing plant had to be designed, designated, and approved by the certifying rabbi. Raw materials all had to be approved by the Rabbi. Many visits from the Rabbi were necessary for final certification, and this was challenging due to brisk manufacturing schedules on the part of the company and the limited times per year that a Rabbi can travel. No other products can be stored or produced in this designated area, but the company found all this effort a sound investment.

"We went Kosher for several reasons. A high demand from our customers for kosher certification and a request from vegetarians and vegans, and people with allergies to beef who wanted a fish-based product. The kosher product was tested in the UK with amazing results. Kosher certification validates and recognizes the purity of the product. The shipments of kosher product are growing steadily."

A combination of benign ingredients, the most interesting of which is collagen hydrolysate from fish, the diet drink is a popular weight-loss tool for a growing number of consumers. Miriam Wieder of New York reports steady sales within the kosher community.

The Essentially Yours company provided the product for Kosher Today's examination. The KT tester reported a loss of eight pounds within one month, and the loss of a few inches around the middle. Further information about Calorad® is available at www.nutritionadvisor.com/calorad_faq.html KAT
